Where
can this product be used?
Anywhere you can
imagine. Courtyards, docks, pool edging, patios, porches,
flat roofs, campgrounds, hot tub pads, garden paths, boats,
rental properties, garages, basements...anywhere you would
like an easy to clean, beautiful wood deck or floor. Since
it can be used places traditional decking cannot, the
possibilities are absolutely endless.
How does the sun affect the surface...Does it fade?
Since KwikDek is
made with a prefinished hardwood, it will be more fade
resistant than a standard deck. You only need to put a coat
of Linseed Oil on it once a year to keep it looking great
for years to come.
Do you have to refinish it every year?
Since KwikDek is
prefinished with a natural finish, you need only put a wood
penetrating oil, like linseed oil, on the surface once a
year to maintain its appearance.
What do you recommend to protect the wood?
We recommend
retreating KwikDek with teak oil, boiled linseed oil, or
other penetrating wood preservative products available
where deck care products are sold.
How long will this deck actually last?
The warranty is
for 5 years, but you can keep your KwikDek looking new for
many many years.
How fire resistant is the decking compared to a traditional
redwood deck?
Since this is
still wood, you do have to use care when putting anything
hot on the deck. Barbeques, etc. are safe, just as they
would be on a regular wood deck.
Will this deck splinter?
Since, again,
this is hardwood, which is a much more dense material, it
will not splinter like redwood and pine.
How does this deck compare to a composite deck?
A composite deck
is made from a plastic material mixed with wood particles
and cannot be oiled. For this reason, once a composite deck
bleaches, it cannot be fixed. The studying we've done on
composite decking said that while composite decking is a
great idea in theory, in practice, it just can't stay
looking as good as when it was first installed. Since
KwikDek is wood, it can be treated once a year to keep it
looking great. The rich natural look and texture of wood
cannot be duplicated with plastic. It can also be sanded
and refinished should it be gouged or damaged in some way.
Also, a single square can be replaced in minutes.
What is the cost difference between installing this product
verses a traditional deck?
Since you can
install KwikDek yourself, the difference in installation
cost is astronomical. Also, if you tried to install a
HARDWOOD deck in the traditional way, the materials alone
would be far more expensive. Using Kwik Dek is like getting
a hardwood deck for less than the price of installing a
traditional redwood or pine deck. AND, it will last longer,
offers more possibilities in design and use, and can be
taken with you when you move. You also should consider that
you can install Kwik Dek without tearing out exisiting
concrete..........and it only takes an hour or two for
installation.
Can the square be cut to any size and shape?
Yes! You can
cut the KwikDek to any contour you wish. Simply put tongue
oil on the raw edge and it will look like the rest of it in
the cut area.
What is the warranty?
The warranty is
5 years
How does water affect it?
Since there are
very small spaces between the slats of wood, and an airy
grate beneath it, water passes through and can evaporate
before it ever damages the wood. No water is ever trapped.
This means no mildew, mold, or stinky wood!
Is the surface slippery?
No, since it
retains the natural wood finish, it is far less slippery
than a concrete, tile, or other popular poolside edging.
Does the wood warp when it is in a hot, humid climate?
No. Because of
the small space left between the planks, it allows the wood
to expand and contract as needed.
How level does the ground beneath the decking have to be?
The flexibility
of KwikDek allows it to "bridge" over about 3/8 in. of
vertical mismatch in a concrete sub-surface as long as that
area is not directly below a parallel KwikDek seam. Extreme
unevenness in a concrete surface will need to be repaired or
smoothed over with a patching compound prior to KwikDek
installation.
Can I put this over a weathered wood deck as a quick fix?
Yes! You just
need to first make sure the surface and supporting framework
are structurally sound.
Can you only install this decking over concrete?
You can install
this over concrete, soil (with a weed control film beneath),
wood decks, and many other surfaces.
Will this product grow mold and mildew?
No. It has an
elevated airflow drying system that keeps mold and mildew
from growing on your decking.
Can I
paint or stain the wood any color
I wish?
No. There is no
need to do that. KwikDek is prefinished with a natural
finish and only needs a once a year application of Linseed,
or other wood penetrating oil.
How much time will it take to install a standard deck?
Most decks can
be installed in one to two hours, depending on size and
intricacy.
Is there any kind of underlayment required?
The only
requirement is that the sub-surface will leave less than a
3/8 in. height difference. It can even be installed over
soil, as long as you install a weed control film first.
How much weight can this product handle?
1500 lbs. per
square foot. You can use it in the garage and park cars on
it!
How soon can you use it after installation?
You can use your
new deck immediately.
How does Kwik Dek handle snow and sub zero temperatures?
Kwik Dek will
allow snow to melt and drain beneath it. It can handle
extremely cold temperatures. However, if you do wish to
pack your KwikDek up for the winter, you can!
What tools will I need to install it?
You will need
basic tools...measuring tape, carpenter's square,
screwdriver, utility knife, sandpaper, linseed oil(for
oiling cut ends), a saw (circular poser saw, table saw, or
hand saw for straight cuts) (saber or reciprocating saw for
rounded or radius cuts).
What type of wood is the decking made from?
KwikDek is
manufactured with attractive Asian hardwoods, and is factory
finished with a penetrating oil to help preserve its natural
beauty.
Do you have trim for the edges?
We have the trim
to compliment your new KwikDek patio. We have edge trim and
corner trim that is made to simply snap together matching
the original panels.
How should I clean my KwikDek?
Light debris or
dirt that may collect between the wood slats of KwikDek can
be removed with a broom, leaf blower, vacuum cleaner, or
spray from a garden hose or pressure washer.
Do we provide help with installation?
There is a nice
installation video produced by the manufacturer that is free
with every order.
Can I get samples of this product before I buy?
We provide 2
ways to recieve samples. You can order 2 panels and the
install video for only $24.95.......or 4 panels and the
install video for only $39.95. We even include the shipping
and handling charges.
